BlueFur: First Impressions

March 7th, 2008 Posted in Web Site

I looked a several different web hosts before deciding on BlueFur

They are a smaller web hosting company. They don’t boast hundreds of thousands of customers. They don’t claim to offer massive amounts of disk space and huge bandwidth limits. They offer a full line of web hosting services from affordable personal accounts to virtual servers to dedicated servers. Their pricing is very good also.
I searched the internet high and low for negative comments about them and didn’t find anything that concerned me. I didn’t find them on any bogus “Top 10 Web Host” lists. There web site has a community forum where you can post pre-sale questions about their service. You can also look at the other forums and see what their current customers are discussing. I posted a question about pointing my current domains to their servers and got a helpful response very quickly. I was impressed. There is actually someone on the other end ready to listen to and help their customers.

So I decided to go for it. I signed up for an account using their online account setup. Everything went fine. My account wasn’t available immediately. I was informed via email and the confirmation page that my payment was being verified and when my account was ready I would be informed via email with all the information I would need to get going.

I had signed up at around 1PM and had my email when I got home from work at 6pm. I also got a nice welcome message, a message about how to use the customer service system and a message with a username and password for the forums.

The account information message had everything I needed to get going. It had the information I needed to get my domain name pointed to the new server. It had temporary URLs to access both my web page and the control panel.

I got into my account control panel with no problems. They use cPanel which is very nice. cPanel runs very fast on my server. There was no waiting for pages to load. I decided not to move the WordPress I had installed at StartLogic since I hadn’t done much to it anyway. So I used Fantastico to install WordPress since they had the latest version. It set up everything just the way I wanted it including creating the database. My site was up and running and and the page loads really fast. I love this!
