Bluefur hosting problems

May 14th, 2009 Posted in General

I was pretty happy with the web hosting service provided by Bluefur right up until I wanted to cancel the service. I wanted to switch to VPS hosting and Bluefur’s was too pricey so I decided to switch providers.

After setting up my VPS and moving my web sites I submitted an account cancellation request to Bluefur. A week went by and I had heard nothing from them. I submitted another ticket and also sent an email to their billing department asking them to cancel my account. Several more days went by. I still hadn’t heard anything and I had been charged for another month of service. I submitted another service ticket and sent another email asking for my account to be canceled and for a refund for the month they had charged me for after I had requested that my account be canceled.

They will not cancel my account. The cancellation tickets sit in Open status and emails to their billing department are ignored. They won’t let you talk to anyone in billing. I ended up having to request a new credit card to keep them from billing me.

Thanks for the suggestion!

A well aimed twitter got somebody to take care of it.

Their excuse was that a cancellation request can take 6 to 8 weeks to process. Meanwhile they are charging you for service. What a crock!

There are a lot of good hosts out there, you really do have to do your homework to see if there are a number of complaints about the hosting service you want to use. I’m sure if you searched out Bluefur you could have made an informed choice.

If you’re paying via PayPal, you can cancel the recurring payment so BlueFur can’t bill your credit card even if they’re not cancelling your account. After logging into PayPal go to “My Account” –> “Profile” –> “More?” –> “Pay List” –> “View: Active” –> click on the Merchant called “Manticore Media” (this is BlueFur) –> if the status is “Active” –> click on “Cancel” and confirm it. That’s it.
