StartLogic: I’ve had Enough

March 7th, 2008 Posted in Web Site

I’ve run my web performance test program for 24 hours now. The results are…interesting. During the day StartLogic performance is terrible. At about 5 o’clock the performance starts to pick up and becomes okay and continues to be okay through the night. When morning hits things start to slow down again and continue to be slow throughout the day. I can only assume that during business hours StartLogic’s servers are getting hammered. Or at least the server my site is on is getting hammered.

Okay, I guess I asked for it by going with the cheapest host with the most bandwidth and disk space I could find. I’m going to cancel my account now while I’m WELL WITHIN the 30 day money back guarantee period and switch to another host. So I’ll be posting about first impressions for a new hosting company soon. I’m going to do more research this time around. Hopefully things go smoothly!

Hi - I’ve had exactly the same experience with StartLogic. It was a little better before they “upgraded” their service to their “new platform” around the end of 2007. The old VDeck was much better, and WordPress performance was acceptable. Since moving to the new server, my WordPress performance has gone in the toilet. LIke you, I’ve been unable to account for this. I haven’t found performance to be any better at night.

I’ll be interested to hear about your experiences switching to a new hosting company.

I switched to BlueFur.com for my hosting and it has been great. Great performance and great customer service. The price is a little more but it is worth it.

Michael, et. al. My WordPress performance on StartLogic has been abysmal also. My experience mirrors yours exactly, down to the difference between vdeck 1.0 an 2.0. I’ve resisted migrating my two older accounts for exactly that reason.

I’ve been told they acknowledge the WordPress slowness issue are upgrading the servers, but what still nonpluses me is how it can be dog slow at 3am CDT. We’re talking as much as four full minutes to load the blog.

Hm… all in all I’m agree with you, but your readership… what are they gonna say about it?
