YouTube API Announcement

March 12th, 2008 Posted in News, Web Site

YouTube has announced some enhancements to their API.

The enhancements include:

  • Upload videos and video responses to YouTube
  • Add/Edit user and video metadata (titles, descriptions, ratings, comments, favorites, contacts, etc)
  • Fetch localized standard feeds (most viewed, top rated, etc.) for 18 international locales
  • Perform custom queries optimized for 18 international locales
  • Customize player UI and control video playback (pause, play, stop, etc.) through software

What this means is that you can enable your applications to automatically upload videos to the YouTube service plus you can query and play the video in your application with a better level of customization and control.

So, with the new iPhone SDK you I’m guessing you could write an iPhone application that would capture video from the built in camera and automatically upload it to YouTube. Might be kinda slow on the EDGE network though! We need 3G iPhones soon!
